Solace: a center for the treatment of eating disorders

An intensive outpatient program

Admission Criteria

Prospective patients are assessed using a number of diagnostic instruments that are recognized as useful in working with people with eating disorders whether it be anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder or eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS). A clinical evaluation is done by one of our psychologists. A medical examination, including laboratory testing, and a statement from a physician documenting that the patient is medically stable are required. Patients must be 13 years of age or older.

Discharge Criteria

The Solace Center for the treatment of eating disorders provides a 10-week, comprehensive intensive outpatient program. We believe that patients should be functioning effectively physically, psychologically and socially before being fully discharged from the program, hence individuals may elect to stay longer than the designated 10 weeks - though this rarely occurs. Medical complications should be cleared. Disordered eating patterns should be well under control. Emotional regulation should be achieved and patients should be effectively participating in routine daily activities such as work and school. Recommendations from both medical and psychological professionals will be important factors in the discharge criteria.
